Voyageurs National Park

The ancient rock, the interconnected waterways of what was once voyageur country, offer recreation and relaxation -- for both the body and soul. Of Voyageurs National Park's 218,000 acres, over one-third are water. Four lakes, (Sand Point, Namakan, Kabetogama, and Rainy) dominate the landscape, but there are twenty-six smaller lakes, all dotted with rocky islands.

Summer or winter, the beauty is extraordinary. You can camp in the park, stay at a lakeside resort, rent a houseboat, or enjoy the park by motorboat, canoe, or floatplane. Guides and good fishing abound and walking nature trails is a popular activity, alone or under the guidance of a National Park Service naturalist.

A tour boat to historic Kettle Falls is only one of the daily options: there are children's programs, campfire get-togethers, and wildlife to study.

Voyageur Country waters - both in and out of Voyageurs National Park -- offer unending boating opportunities. Expansive stretches of water and networks of bays, channels, and islands invite exploration. Bring your own boat or rent one. (Or use a canoe or reserve a houseboat.) Whatever your preference, hundreds of mainland, and island campsites await you. The lap of waves, the crackle of campfires, the cry of a loon - all the best of Voyageur Country.
