The mission of the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission (ARDC) is to serve the people of the Arrowhead Region of Northeastern Minnesota by providing local units of government and citizen groups a means to work cooperatively in identifying needs, solving problems and fostering local leadership.

ARDC's membership blends public and private sector people and interests. Program funding comes from a combination of federal and state grants and fees paid for services. Regional planning efforts include:

Aging
The Arrowhead Area Agency on Aging links senior citizens with information, assists community groups and service providers with planning, coordination and development, and strives to improve the quality of life for older persons and their families through local and regional initiatives.

Regional Planning
ARDC guides communities, agencies and organizations in Regional Transportation Planning, Economic Development Assistance, Community Planning, Land Use Planning and Natural Resources Planning and Management.

Metropolitan Planning
The Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council provides guidance and leadership on land use and transportation planning issues facing the Duluth/Superior metro area.

America's Byways Resource Center
The America's Byways Resource Center is a joint venture between ARDC and the Federal Highway Administration. The center provides information and assistance to government agencies, community organizations and individuals working on nationally designated scenic byways.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Planners, engineers, resource technicians and decision-makers use GIS database tools to solve problems for government and industry. ARDC has a highly qualified GIS staff, trained to apply this technology in a variety of uses.
